Rahil Rojiani (they/them) is a queer, genderfluid, South Asian Ismaili Muslim / Buddhist, and a trauma-focused abolitionist psychiatrist at Cambridge Health Alliance / Harvard Medical School. Their spiritual-political framework grew out of their Muslim upbringing in the era of 9/11, then nourished in college through intersecting threads of community organizing and Contemplative Studies– a multi-disciplinary study of meditation, spirituality, neuroscience, and philosophy of mind. In addition to Islam and Hindustani classical music, their Dharma journey has traversed through multiple Theravadin and Vajrayana Buddhist lineages, supported by Lama Rod Owens as their primary teacher. In other lives, Rahil has conducted research on the neuroscience of meditation and drumming, and on drumming as an intervention for incarcerated men. Currently, they co-facilitate Heartwood, a politicized BIPOC mindfulness and healing space. Rahil is devoted to using contemplative practices and somatic psychotherapies for healing trauma in oppressed communities working toward collective liberation.
